Sodium Metabisulfite is also called as Sodium Pyrosulfite, chemical formula: Na2S2O5. It is a kind of inorganic compound.

Sodium Metabisulfite production process flow is as follows:

1. The sulfur is crushed into powder and sent to the combustion furnace with compressed air, self-ignition at 600-800 ℃, the amount of air added is about 2 times of the theoretical amount to generate sulfur dioxide gas with a concentration of 10-13%. After cooling, dedusting and filtering, the sublimated sulfur and other impurities are removed, and the gas temperature is reduced to about 50 ℃, which is put into the series reactor.

2. Add sodium carbonate and water into the reactor, stir to dissolve, add sulfur dioxide gas to react, when pH is 4.1, sodium bisulfite solution is formed, the reaction equation is as follows: Na2CO3+2SO2+H2O=2NaHSO3+CO2↑

3. The mother liquor of sodium bisulfite was added into the third stage reactor, and add sodium carbonate solution that is dissolved by water, to do neutralization reaction, when pH is 7-8, sodium sulfite solution is formed, the reaction equation is as follows: Na2CO3+2NaHSO3=2NaSO3+CO2↑+H2O

4. The generated sodium sulfite suspension is passed through the second stage reactor and the first stage reactor in turn, absorption reaction with sulfur dioxide, when pH is 4.1, sodium bisulfite solution is formed, when the content of sodium bisulfite in the solution reaches the saturation concentration, separate out sodium metabisulfite crystals. the reaction equation is as follows: Na2SO3+SO2+H2O=2NaHO3 2NaHO3→ Na2SO5+H2O,The reaction is exothermic and the reaction temperature is about 45 ℃.

5. Sodium metabisulfite crystal slurry transferred from the first stage reactor is transferred to the centrifuge for centrifugation, the mother liquor after centrifugation is returned to the reactor in step 2, the wet sodium metabisulfite is sent to the dryer, the product is dried at 160 ℃. The reaction tail gas is vented after being absorbed by alkali liquor.
